Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is an injectable weight loss drug available on prescription in the UK. It mimics natural GLP-1 and GIP hormones in your gut, helping you control your appetite and making you feel fuller for longer. When paired with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, using Mounjaro can result in effective, healthy weight loss.
Mounjaro is suitable for eligible adults with a BMI over 25. If you've already used weight loss treatments, other BMIs may be eligible. Your eligibility will depend on your individual circumstances and weight-related conditions, and all treatments are subject to clinical review.
Mounjaro is a highly effective, prescription-only treatment for weight management. But, effectiveness isn’t just about speed or numbers on the scale.
In 72 weeks, people taking Mounjaro 15mg as directed in a clinical study lost an average of 22.5% of their body weight. This means that someone who weighs 100kg may lose an average of 22.5kg in 72 weeks (1 year, 5 months). This is an example only. It is not a prediction of individual results.1
Yes, Mounjaro is licensed for weight loss in the UK.
You're likely to be able to continue using it for up to 2 years with clinical guidance. The Clinical team will review your weight with every order to ensure this product is working for you. When you have used your highest tolerated dose for 6 months, we'll review your progress. For us to continue prescribing Mounjaro to you, you’ll need to have lost around 5% of your initial body weight.
Results vary for everyone, and progress looks different from person to person. Some people notice early changes in appetite or “food noise,” while others see results build gradually over time.
Our medical team focuses on what works for you. It’s all about helping you find a comfortable, sustainable approach that fits your body, your goals and your lifestyle.
Mounjaro is available online at MedExpress. To find out if you're suitable for treatment, start a quick consultation here.
Mounjaro starts from £139.99, and varies by dose.
You’ll start with the lowest dose, which may be gradually increased every 4 weeks based on your progress. If you're doing well on a lower dose, you can stay there for longer. Lower doses also cost less.
When you order Mounjaro for the first time, you’ll receive 1 pen that includes each of your 4 doses for your first 28 days of treatment. It’s important to store it in a refrigerator between 2-8°C. Mounjaro comes in a single-dose pen. You’ll also receive:
With each new order, you’ll receive your next pen at the right strength for you.

No, it is not necessary to upload new photos each time you reorder.
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a licensed, prescription-only medicine, and it's safe for most eligible adults when taken under clinical supervision.
Like all medications, Mounjaro comes with some potential side effects and risks. Most people get mild digestive side effects that ease over time. Rarer but more serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney issues, and allergic reaction, so it's important to know the warning signs and get help quickly if they appear. You can learn more about the safety of Mounjaro here.
Always read the patient information leaflet before starting treatment.
Mounjaro is an injectable medication that comes in a pre-filled pen. It needs to be used once weekly, on the same day each week. This will help your treatment to be as effective as possible.
The pen itself is simple to use and the needles are very small, so it’s relatively pain-free and easy to get used to.
Mounjaro can be injected in the abdomen, thigh or back of the upper arm at any time during the day, with or without food.
You’ll receive clear instructions with your first order on the specifics for applying your treatment confidently. Our team are also on hand to answer any questions.
Mounjaro can be injected in the back of the upper arm, thigh or abdomen on a weekly basis. It uses a very small, fine needle for a near-painless injection just below the surface of the skin. The Mounjaro pen comes with clear instructions for use. It has a simple dial in order to deliver the right amount of medication for your treatment stage. Once you’ve had the injection, remove and dispose of the needle in a sharps bin. Replace the cap and store as instructed.
You can find detailed instructions on how to inject your treatment on our blog.
Each Mounjaro pen contains 4 dosages. Given this is a weekly dosage, one pen lasts 4 weeks. The needles should be disposed of after each administration.
The strength of the injection may be increased every 4 weeks until the highest tolerated dose, or the maximum dose is reached. However, dose increases (titration) are assessed regularly and will be monitored by your clinician.
Mounjaro should be stored in a refrigerator and kept at 2–8°C, or in a cooler/ice pack when travelling. Don’t freeze it, and don't use it if it's been frozen. Keep the cap on when the pen isn’t in use to protect it from light.
To dispose of used Mounjaro pens, you need to discard the needle into the sharps bin. You’ll receive a sharps bin with your first order. This is a special waste bin that’s used to store sharps material, like needles, until it can be safely disposed of.
After every use, dispose of the needle into the sharps bin. After the 4 doses, and once the needle has been removed, the pen can be disposed of in your household waste or the sharps bin. When full, your sharps bin may be collected for disposal by your local council or exchanged for a new one at a pharmacy.
It's important to follow a healthy diet while taking Mounjaro. You can find our detailed suggestions here.
Yes, you can travel with Mounjaro, but you must keep the pens at 2–8°C. Many people find it useful to use coolers or ice packs if they don't have access to a fridge.

Everyone’s journey to find the right Mounjaro dose for optimal effectiveness is unique. You’ll begin with a low starting dose (2.5mg once a week) to help your body get used to treatment. From there, your dose may increase gradually over time, but there’s no single “right” pace or target.
Our Clinical team will check in with you regularly to see how you’re responding and feeling. Some people find they’re reaching their goals and tolerating treatment well at a lower dose, while others may benefit from increasing. What matters most is finding the dose that works best for you, balancing comfort, results, and your personal health goals.
You’ll begin on a low starting dose, taken once a week. From there, you can increase your dose gradually, or stay where you feel comfortable, and your clinician will review your choice and confirm it’s safe and sustainable for you.
Over time, some people choose to reduce their dose to maintain results or manage side effects.
If you experience symptoms such as persistent nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea with your current Mounjaro dose, speak to our customer care team for advice. We may recommend continuing or decreasing your dose to see if that helps improve your tolerance.
We can also give you tips to help manage any symptoms and get maximum benefit from the medication. It’s important to not increase your Mounjaro dose until you're ready, so make sure you contact MedExpress if you have persistent side effects.
If you're concerned by your symptoms, review your patient information leaflet or seek medical attention.
If a dose is missed, it should be administered as soon as possible, as long as it's within 4 days after the missed dose. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and administer the next dose on the regularly scheduled day. You can then continue your regular once-weekly dosing schedule.
The Clinical team will review your weight with every order to ensure this product is working for you. When you have used your highest tolerated dose for 6 months, we will review your progress. For us to continue prescribing Mounjaro to you, you’ll need to have lost around 5% of your initial body weight.
If you have any queries or concerns at any time, you can contact our team.
The most common side effects of Mounjaro are digestive: nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion, and vomiting. These are usually mild, and tend to settle as your body adjusts to treatment.
Rare but serious risks include pancreatitis and gallbladder problems. Signs to watch for include sudden severe stomach pain, persistent vomiting, or pain under the right rib cage that spreads to your back or shoulder. Seek medical help straight away if you notice these.
You can find detailed side effect information in your patient information leaflet, or on our blog.
Mounjaro comes in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, and 15mg.
If you're new to Mounjaro, you'll start on the 2.5mg dose. You can learn more with our complete dosing guide here.
Mounjaro should not be used during pregnancy.
If you're planning to become pregnant, it's recommended that you wait at least one month after your last dose of Mounjaro before trying to conceive.
It's not recommended to use Mounjaro while breastfeeding, because it's not yet known whether or not Mounjaro can pass into breast milk.
Mounjaro may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptive pills, but it doesn't affect non-oral methods such as IUDs or implants, or barrier methods like condoms. As you should avoid pregnancy while taking Mounjaro, it's recommended that you use a barrier or non-oral method if you're sexually active and able to conceive.
Mounjaro may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptive pills. This could increase the risk of a pregnancy, which is advised against when taking Mounjaro.
If you're sexually active and able to conceive, you must use an additional barrier form of contraception, such as condoms, or switch to a non-oral method such as an IUD or implant.
