Our Editorial Policy: How We Ensure Every Article Is Safe, Accurate and Trustworthy
When looking for health information, it’s normal to ask, “Is online doctor content trustworthy?” At MedExpress, we're dedicated to keeping you informed about your health with the most up-to-date guidance and honest support available. That’s why we have a clear editorial policy to shape how we create and review our health information.
We follow many rules to make sure our content is clinically backed, accurate and aligned with UK medical guidance. For example, every article we produce is based on medically reviewed UK content, and prioritises expertise, experience, authority and trustworthiness (Google’s E-E-A-T medical content principles). Because your safety is our priority.
How we produce our content
Choosing topics to support you
Before we write, we listen. We select subjects based on real questions from customers and emerging healthcare topics.
Whether we’re providing evidence-based guidance on an emerging treatment or sharing expert advice on managing symptoms, each topic is selected for a clear and specific purpose: to help you manage your health.
Prioritising medical evidence
Our experienced team of writers research topics using only trusted sources, including NICE guidelines, MHRA statements and peer-reviewed clinical trials. We don’t use studies with small participant numbers or a lack of human evidence, and we don’t report on any data that could be unreliable.
We also align our advice with the NHS and well-established medical charities like Diabetes UK, to provide support and information you can trust.
Making health information accessible
We’re committed to content that’s as easy to understand and helpful to as many people as possible, regardless of background, education, or previous health knowledge. Supporting strong health literacy is central to our mission of empowering people to make informed health decisions. That’s why we’re proud to say we’re PIF TICK certified.
PIF TICK is a UK-wide quality mark for trusted health information, awarded by the Patient Information Forum to organisations that meet criteria for high-quality, evidence-based, accessible health content.
Note: Our content is designed for adults seeking accurate medical information online, but we aim to write at a reading age of 12 years old or lower. Where the subject matter is more complex, we allow for a maximum reading age of 14 and add visual aids to improve accessibility.
Reviews by real clinical experts
We rely on medical evidence, not opinions. Every article is reviewed by a clinical expert, including GMC and GPhC-registered professionals, to ensure accuracy and safety.
Meet the team
Dr. Zoe Lees (Medical Writer), reporting to Dr. Sophie Dix (Head of Medical Affairs), is responsible for the accuracy of medical content and approves clinical copy. She ensures content remains evidence-based and adheres to regulatory guidance.
Dr. Shendy Engelina, a consultant dermatologist, reviews dermatology information for clinical accuracy and safety. She advises on both medical content and planned educational resources.
Continuing our commitment to you
Our work doesn’t stop once an article is published. We review all blog content again on an annual basis, or earlier if new treatments emerge or safety information evolves.
Safety and limitations
Remember: Our articles are designed to support (not replace) advice from a healthcare professional. We make sure everything we publish is fact-checked by clinical experts and regularly reviewed, but it may not always reflect the most recent health guidelines. Always speak to your doctor about any health concerns you have.
