Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a vaginal infection that causes unusual, strong-smelling discharge, particularly after sex. Half of people with bacterial vaginosis do not have any symptoms.
It affects one-third of people with menstrual cycles at some point in their life.
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by an imbalance of vaginal bacteria. Certain triggers can increase the risk of disrupting the vaginal microbiome balance, including:
