About the morning after pill

Emergency contraception, often known as the morning after pill, is a contraceptive method that’s used after unprotected sex to prevent pregnancy.
You may decide to take emergency contraception if:
  • You’ve had sex without using contraception.
  • You’re worried a condom broke or leaked.
  • You missed your regular contraceptive pill.
  • You’ve recently been sick or had diarrhoea, so your regular contraceptive pill may be less effective.
Swallow a single tablet within 120 hours (5 days) of having unprotected sex.
Avoid taking emergency contraception if you have:
  • A hypersensitivity to progestogens
  • Severe liver disease
  • Acute porphyria
  • Difficulties absorbing nutrients or medications
  • Severe asthma, and you use oral steroids
Some medications may interact with oral emergency contraception and make it less effective, such as antiepileptic drugs, antibiotics and retroviral medications.
The morning after pill can be taken up to 120 hours (five days) after having unprotected sex, and is 98% effective.
Order before 4pm for same day dispatch, subject to clinical approval.
MedExpress offers a range of delivery options at checkout. You can chose to have your order delivered direct to your home or work, or optionally collect from a local Post Office.
We always use discreet logo-free packaging, so only you’ll know what’s inside.
Like all medications, emergency contraception can cause side effects. These may include headaches, breast tenderness, fatigue, dizziness, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. You may also experience spotting before your next period.
If you vomit within 3 hours of taking emergency contraception, you should take a repeat dose.
