The statistics showing how much weight loss is possible while taking Mounjaro are well-documented. But we want to help you understand the wider impact this weight loss treatment can have – from regaining confidence, to feeling healthy enough to run around after small children again. We’ve asked three MedExpress customers to share their experiences of using Mounjaro below.
Understanding Mounjaro: An Overview
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a medicine that was first used to help people with type 2 diabetes. In November 2023, it was also approved in the UK to treat obesity. [1]
It is currently the most effective weight loss medication available. On average, people using it lose up to 20.9% of their body weight in just over a year (72 weeks). [2] You take Mounjaro once a week by giving yourself an injection with a pen that is already filled with the right amount of medicine.
How Mounjaro Works For Weight Loss
Many popular weight loss treatments are called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. These medicines mimic a natural hormone in your body called GLP-1. This hormone helps your body make insulin after eating, which lowers blood sugar.
Mounjaro works a bit differently. It mimics two hormones, GLP-1 and another one called glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). Together, they help better regulate blood sugar and weight loss. [3]
Factors Influencing Mounjaro’s Efficacy
Not everyone will lose weight in the same way or at the same speed when using Mounjaro. This is because many things can affect your results, including your starting weight, pre-existing health conditions, side effects, how active you are and what you eat.
A personalised treatment plan
All GLP-1 weight loss treatments, like Mounjaro, start with a low dose that slowly increases each month. This is called titration. It helps your body get used to the medication and reduces the chances of side effects.
The final dose you stay on is called the maintenance dose. This is different for everyone, depending on how your body responds to the medication. [4] The clinical team at MedExpress will guide you through this process with regular check-ins.
Mounjaro’s Weight Loss Timeline
Everyone loses weight at different speeds, so it’s important to give Mounjaro time to work. Our team recommends staying on treatment for at least six months.
Some people lose weight quickly at first. Others might slow down or stop losing weight for a while (called a weight loss plateau). Some people don’t see results until later, especially if side effects made it harder to exercise regularly or eat a healthy, balanced diet in the beginning.
We will check your progress after six months. If you haven’t lost at least 5% of your starting weight, we may suggest stopping Mounjaro and looking at other options that could work better for you.
Insights From Real MedExpress Customers
Even though weight loss medications like Mounjaro have been proven to work in studies, it can be really helpful to hear from real people who have used it. Their stories, challenges and feedback can give you a better idea of what to expect.
Here’s what Rosie, Roisin and Magdalena have experienced on their Mounjaro journey.
Mounjaro Success Stories and Challenges
Rosie, lost 25kg (56lbs) in 6 months on Mounjaro

“I had gained over five stone since having my three children and had tried every diet under the sun. I finally plucked up the courage to try Mounjaro and it has changed my life. I’ve not only lost four stone but I am happier, more confident, full of energy and able to run around after my children for longer. Mounjaro has drastically improved my physical, emotional and mental health. Medexpress have been so supportive in my journey and have always been available if I have had any questions.”
Roisin S, lost 19.5kg (43lbs) in 3 months on Mounjaro

“Carrying 20 stone at 5ft ‘5 is a lot of weight for anybody and I was just in pain. I didn’t want to get dressed. I didn’t want to go out. I wouldn’t look in the mirror. I had to do something to change mentally. Otherwise, I was just going to stay in that consistent loop.
I was surprised with how much weight Mounjaro has helped me lose in such a short amount of time. I’ve changed my eating dramatically. The snacking has seemed to have disappeared because I want to lose weight more than I want the chocolate bar. I never thought I’d lose the amount of weight that I have – if I lose a pound a week, that’s great. The pain in my knee seems to have decreased a lot since losing the weight. I don’t get any more back pain.
I think it’s made me a lot more confident within myself. I actually want to go out and do things. I want to go clothes shopping. I don’t want to be at home – I want to be out doing something with my kids. It’s been the greatest thing I’ve ever done for myself, 100%!”
Magdalena M. lost 22kg (48.5lbs) in 4 months on Mounjaro.

“The primary reason [for wanting to lose weight] was being healthy for my kids. There’s a lot of things that I will not be able to do at the weight that I was… I was restricted. I would like to be able to do these things with them to have fun with them; be healthy for them and for myself… to be happy and healthy.
I did try the Cambridge diet, I tried the keto diet and fasting – but it was just a temporary solution. It had a rebound effect where I lost some [weight] and after that I just regained it back because I wasn’t managing it very well. The food noise was still there.
Before, I was struggling to find clothes that fit me because everything was too small. Whereas now I struggle to find clothes that fit me because everything is becoming too loose.”
